Zhang Zhi, a famous calligrapher lived in Eastern Han Dynasty, was honored as “cursive sage” by followers. He once put forward a principle of cursive script “it is too hurry to cursive script”,which was misunderstood by many calligraphers because of the ignorance of the previous words “cursive script must reflect regular script regulations”. This paper is to discuss the true meaning of Zhang’s viewpoint through his time, people’s realization of cursive script, the significance of regular script regulations, and complexity of creation and inner world of calligraphers.
