《裸者与死者》是作者以战争为题材进行的创作,在小说中作者表达了对战争的厌恶,并描绘了美国军队通过战争进行的扩张行为,战争让胜利者有了更大的权力欲望,美国就是最大的战争胜利者,但在第二次世界大战结束后,美国并没有停息战争的烟火,而且将战争引入到了越南、朝鲜、古巴等国家。小说中将这种心理定性为"权威主义性格"并进行了描写。

In the novel The Naked and The Dead with the war theme, the author expressed his dislike of war and depicts the expansion behavior of American troops through the war which let winners have greater power desire. The United States is the greatest victor in the war, but after the second world war, the United States war did not cease the freworks of the war; rather, it triggered the war in Vietnam, North Korea, Cuba and other countries. This kind of psychology is characterized as “authoritarian character” as described in the novel.
