Academic Bodies in Other Countries:New Ways for Chinese in America to Integrate into Host Country

1987年9月,中国留美历史学会在美国正式成立。作为由在美华人组建的一个以研究中国历史为主的学术团体,该学会在美30年发展历程不仅对美国学界和社会产生了较大影响,也促进了中美两国文化与学术交流。在对该学会《会员通讯录》分析基础上,从移民史角度切入,研究其如何以学术研究为契机,与美、中两国保持互动并逐步融入美国社会,希冀为探究海外华人在国际关系发展中之作用及推动移民融入主流社会等问题提供一种新视角。

In September 1987,the Chinese History Society of America was formally established.As an academic body founded by Chinese historians in the United States focusing on Chinese history,it has not only had a great impact on the American academia and society in its 30 years of development,but also has promoted the cultural and academic exchanges between China and the United states.Based on an analysis of the address list of the society and starting from the immigration history perspective,this paper studies how the society,by using academic research as an opportunity to interact with the two countries,has gradually integrated into the American society,with a view to providing a new perspective for exploring the role of overseas Chinese in the development of international relations and in promoting the integration of immigrants into the mainstream society.
