The in vivo and in vitro alternative methods of irritation evaluation for cosmetics approved by regulations at home and abroad were reviewed. The principles, methodology and applications of in vitro alternatives methods for eye and skin irritation/corrosion evaluation were described in detail, including 9 methods for eye irritation/corrosion, 3 methods for skin corrosion, 1 method for skin irritation. Finally, it concluded that the alternative methods in vitro had become a global trend. And we should actively establish the corresponding in vitro alternative methods upon national situations.
