京师滇学堂初探

A Study of the Beijing School for Yunnanese Living in the Capital

1905年9月,云南旅京同乡集议创建京师滇学堂,次年将云南会馆新馆改为堂址办学,因滇距京师辽远,人数较少,故招生不分省界。1911年改称公立云南两等小学堂。该学堂在清末"废科举,行新学"的背景下创建,是当时各省同乡京官所办学校中建得比较早的现代学校,除了发挥兴新学、出版书籍等功能外,仍延续了会馆的部分功能。该堂存在时间虽然不长,但在云南近代教育史上具有重要地位。

In September,1905,Yunnanese in Beijing proposed to set up a school for Yunnanese living in the capital,and in the next year they renovated the Yunnan Venue as the site for the school.Since Yunnan was remote and Yunnanese living in Beijing were not great in number,the enrolment of the school were not confined to people of Yunnan origin.In 1911,it was renamed as the National Yunnan Two-Level Primary School.The school was built in answer to the call of'Revoking the Keju System;Pressing Ahead with New Schooling'in the waning days of the Qing Dynasty.Compared with schools founded by people from other provinces living in Beijing,the Yunnan School was quite early and modern.Apart from promoting the new schooling and publishing,part of the former functions of the Yunnan Venue was also kept.Although the school didn't last long,it has its place of considerable significance in the modern educational history of Yunnan.
