A Preliminary Study on the Source of“ju^(21)”as an Aspect Marker in the Thai Language

泰语的体标记词"ju^(21)"是由表示实在意义的动词逐渐虚化而来的。句法位置的改变是主要诱因。由于句法位置的改变,原来表示"在、居住"意义的动词"ju^(21)"逐渐虚化为介词,进而渐变为表持续的体标记词,包括动作的持续和状态的持续。

The Thai word＂ju21＂as an aspect marker word came from the notional verb of the same form.The change of position of the verb in the sentence is the cause for its becoming a marker word.The syntactic positional change causes the verb to lose its meaning of＂be＂and＂live in＂and to become first a preposition and then an aspect marker meaning continuous state or action.
