“旧文人”的生前身后名——林纾逝世后新文学家对之的再评价

New Writers' Reevaluation of Lin Shu after His Death

在新文化运动中,作为"旧文人"的林纾是新文学阵营大加伐挞的对象,并被贴上顽固守旧派的标签。但在林纾逝世后,学界对其一生文学功绩的评价趋于理性,其文学功绩得到包括新文学阵营作家在内的大多数人的承认。而周作人、钱玄同的态度却与评论界的主流观点迥异,前者对林纾的评价前后不一,并趋向否定;后者则全然否定。作为当时评论界的"杂音",周作人的观点尽管有失偏颇,但体现出他在维护新文学传统上的坚定立场。由此可见,对"旧文人"的臧否需要经受时间的检验,超越新文学的独家立场,方能做出理性的评价。

In the New Culture Movement,Lin Shu,an old literatus,was the object of criticism by the new literature camp and was labeled as a stubborn old scholar. However,after his death,the evaluation of Lin Shu＇s literary merits all his life has become rational,and his literary achievements have been acknowledged by the majority of people including writers of the new literary camp. Nevertheless,the attitude of Zhou Zuoren and Qian Xuantong is different from the mainstream view of critics,for the former is inconsistent and inclined to be negative in their evaluation of Lin Shu whereas the latter is an utter negation. As a sort of ＂noise＂made by critics at that time,Zhou Zuoren＇s view is,biased as it might be,reflective of his staunch standpoint in maintaining the new literary tradition.
