OBJECTIVE To analyze the potential inappropriate medication among hospitalized elderly patients in our hospi- tal,and investigate the applicability of two criteria. METItODS Beers criteria and list of potential inappropriate medication for the Chinese aged people were used as the references, to evaluate and analyze potential inappropriate medication of 1000 hospital- ized elderly patients. RESULIS The average age of 1000 elderly hospitalized patients was (70. 38 ± 8. 28) years old and number of the average kinds of diseases was (6.35 ± 3.50). For each patient, 14. 89 ± 7.08 kinds of medicine had been used. According to the Beers criteria,480 patients (48. 00%) got 673 potential inappropriate medication. According to list of potential inappro- priate medication for the Chinese aged people,585 patients (58. 50%) got 896 potential inappropriate medication. CONCLUSION Beers criteria and list of potential inappropriate medication for the Chinese aged people both have important application value in evaluating PIMs. Professional skills of clinical pharmacists and comprehensive evaluation analysis should be combined to provide reliable basis and reference for clinical rational drug use.
