Study of the Nagasaki Incident in 1886

1886年8月,中俄勘界会议进行期间,北洋水师四艘军舰入日本长崎港上坞修理,13、15日同当地警察、民众发生流血冲突,此事称"长崎事件"。中日两国围绕此事交涉、解决过程,对两国影响较大。北洋水师成军后,自恃两艘铁甲舰船坚炮利,至甲午战前海军未曾有大发展,然日本借助此事更加发力建设海军,努力摆脱陆主海从的军事体制,而检证海军效果的是甲午战争的中国战败。

Four warships that belonged to the Beiyang Navy of The Qing Dynasty headed for Nagasaki port to repair,during the China and Russia conference on demarcation on August of 1886.On the 13 th and 15 th,Beiyang Navy clashed with the local police and people,so this case also called as ＂Nagasaki Incident＂.The process of the negotiation and settlement around this case was important for both China and Japan.On the first,The Beiyang Navy owned two Armored ships,but leaned no more development before The Sina-Japanese war in 1895.On the second,with this matter,Japan began to develop navy,and tried to get rid of the military system that gave priority to the land force.While the defeat of China in the Sino-Japanese war was the verification of naval power.
