UK-Japan Defense and Security Cooperation: Routes, Motives and Effects

英日防务与安全合作的主要路径有高层对话与相互政治支持、联合训练、军演与交流互访、合作研发装备与军品贸易等。英国推进合作的主要动因是提升英国对亚太安全的影响力。日本则主要基于在美国之外寻求更多西方大国对日本在中日博弈中的支持,以及巩固解禁集体自卫权的成果两大考虑。英日加强防务与安全合作,使得英国对亚太安全事务的话语权增大,日本突破专守防卫限制也将获得更多借力点,而英国介入南海问题的可能性也因此而上升。

Main routes of UK-Japan defense and security cooperation are high-level dialogues and mutual political supports, joint exercises and military maneuvers exchanging visits between two armed forces, and cooperative development of defense equipments and military trade. UK＇s motives focus on raising its influence on Asia-Pacific security. Japan＇s motives include pursuit of supports for Japan from more western powers besides US in Sino-Japan games, consolidating the results of Japan＇s adopting the right of collective self-defense as well. Since deepening UK-Japan defense and security cooperation, UK can obtain a louder voice in Asia-Pacific security affairs; Japan has been encouraged to break defense limits further. UK＇s possible intervention of South China issues will arise as well.
