Mood is used to express the attitude towards matters and therefore modal information is an important part of text information. In C-E translation of Chinese national standards, the proper expression of modal infor- mation is an important aspect of maintaining information integrity. This paper analyzes and summarizes the com- mon rules that need to be followed in translation of Chinese national standards.
