Cao He Che,being the name of a herb, was originated in the Qing Dynasty. It was the Alias name of Paris polyphylla at first. With the separation of medicine,as the same medication site of Paris polyphylla and polygonum bistorta has been used at that time and both of them are similar in color and in shape, polygonum bistorta was used to be mistaken for Zao Xiu( a nother name of Paris polyphylla),which leading to the confusion of the two medication herbs from the Qing Dynasty. In addition, the range of cultivation of polygonum bistorta is larger than that of Paris polyphylla, which also has better yield. The confusion of the two herbs is often neglected by people and leads to the fact that Cao He Che becomes the common alias name. This article aims to view the alias from the Chinese traditional monographs, clearing up the sources and getting to the bottom of problems, discuss the reason of confusion from the perspective of development in order to attract attention from peers, and to avoid the use of Cao Heche this alias.
