America's Food Strategy for Republic of Korea and Its Response

美韩之间在粮食方面的博弈由来已久。美国出于自身利益在朝鲜战争结束后开展了对韩国的粮食援助,大量的美国粮食进入韩国,一方面为韩国的经济发展和工业化建设做出了贡献,但另一方面也侵蚀了韩国的粮食主权,大大降低了韩国的粮食自给率,使得韩国的粮食消费大量依赖进口。为维护自身的粮食安全,韩国也进行了努力,与美国进行了博弈,特别是在主食大米方面。韩国的努力卓有成效,但在总体的粮食安全方面,韩国仍需要未雨绸缪,解决一系列问题。

The game of food between America and Republic of Korea embraces a long history. America implemented food aid towards Republic of Korea for its own interests. Amounts of American food poured into Republic of Korea, not only contributing greatly to the economic development and industrialization of ROK, but also eroding its food sovereignty, which reduced the levels of food self-sufficiency and made ROK＇s grain consumption dependent on import. To protect the food security, ROK made efforts to carry out game strategies with America, especially in the case of staple food of rice. It＇s efforts were successful, but in terms of overall food security, it still needed to make preparations and solve a series of potential problems.
