The A Dream of Red Mansions is widely recognized as a pinnacle among the classical Chinese novels. It is referred to as the encyclopaedia in Chinese Feudal Society. Although this book is not a medical work, the causes, condition and pathogenesis analysis on the diseases of characters in the work are completely in conformity with the theories of traditional Chinese medicine. It deserves the deep analysis and research not only from the perspective of literature appreciation, but also from the angle of TCM theory. The novel takes much writing on the description of traditional Chinese medicine constitution of its characters, which plays a significant role in advancing the plot. Through the comparison between Wang Xifeng and Lin Daiyu, the thesis reveald the relation between the constitution and the life experience, speech, appearance, personality characteristics and cause of death, so as to alert people to understand and improve the constitution.
