This paper described an application of converter in crane for steel making, also introduced that there were three variable speed modes as rotor series resistance, stator variable voltage and frequency control, as well as the advantages and disadvantages based on the analysis of the influence of different driving mode of maintenance work. Fi- nally discussed the selection, the common faults and maintenance of frequency converter. There is a far - reaching practical significance.
