摘要
《韩非子》一书称墨子"言多不辩"。白寿彝认为此处"辩"应为"华美的语言"之意,与论辩并无关联;张觉以意译的方式将"辩"字释为"巧妙动听"。二家注释皆不确切。"辩"字并非是文辞的"藻饰华丽"与"巧妙动听",而应指对言语所进行的"修饰加工"。"藻饰华丽"与"巧妙动听"皆指言语的呈现效果,而"修饰加工"则为言语的修辞方式。通过这种方式,可以使言语获得包括"华美""动听"在内的表达效果。"言多不辩"之意应为"言论多而不富于修饰加工"。
It is said in Han Fei Zi that Mozi "Yan Duo Bu Bian". Bai Shouyi believes that "Bian" means a florid speech and has nothing to do with a debate. Zhang Jue interprets Bian into " ingenious and dulcet". Both interpretations are not accurate enough. The author of this paper believes that "Bian" should be understood as the embelishment of language. Florid and dulcet refer to the effect of the speech, whereas embelishment of language has to do with the rhetoric by means of which the speech can be florid and dulcet. Therefore, "Yan Duo Bu Bian" should be interpreted as "multitudinous speeches without much embelishing".
