The history of the development of typesetting technology in China is discussed.It points out that,Cai Lun’s papermaking technology has laid a material foundation for the development of printing;engraving printing simplified the reproduction of books;Bi Sheng’s invention of movable type printing was China’s major contribution to the printing of the world; Wang Zhen’s wheel typography greatly improved the efficiency of typography;the type took the place of mud word and wood word,so that typography got into the hot type era;Wang Xuan’s laser phototypesetting was a revolution in typography technology,which crossed the difficulties of Chinese characters in computer typesetting;digital publishing has broad prospects.
