On Franois Jullien's Interpretation of " Blandness" in Chinese Aesthetics

法国当代汉学家于连自觉摆脱西方传统哲学视角,以"迂回"的策略揭示中国思想的迥异面貌。"淡"的美学在西方历来无人问津,但在中国传统中却持续在场。于连借助对"淡"的诠释来考察中国思想与美学,进而从外部他者视角反思西方传统,解构欧洲中心论和逻各斯主义,为重新发现中国及建立中西之间的崭新对话提供了有益的尝试。

Franois Jullien,a contemporary French sinologist,stands in the background of w estern philosophy w ith a unique vision to look at China and finds Chinese thought and aesthetics to be quite different from the w estern stereotype named logocentrism. Here is a new w ay to reveal the uniqueness of Chinese thought,a strategy he calls " bypass". Juliien' s idea and method not only transcend many w estern sinologists,but also provide reference and inspiration for indigenous Chinese scholars. Not a category in w estern aesthetics, " blandness" has never been absent in the Chinese tradition. Revealing the mystery of " blandness" may furnish an opportunity for communication among different cultures and a new dialogue betw een China and the West.
