Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead written by Tom Stoppard, which was filmed in 1990, is a parody and reconstruction of Hamlet, one of Shakespeare's most famous plays. This article attempts to interpret the differences between the film and Hamlet from three aspects of characters, way of narration and the function of theatrical troupe, and explain the absurd view of destiny reflected in the film. Meanwhile, it observes the new anti-conventional postmodernist interpretation of Hamlet.
