《论语》中“说”字本义论析——以《左传》中“说”的用法倒推

The Core Meaning of “shuo”(说) in The Analects of Confucius——Based on the Usage of “shuo”(说) in Zuo Zhuan

"说"字在《左传》中出现了约95次,根据其所在的上下文,可以分析归纳出其本义是"敬服"。把这个本义套用到《论语》中出现"说"字的全部18处句子都能贯通解释。《左传》和《论语》中"说"字的使用有细微的差别。《论语》第一句"学而时习之,不亦说乎"的深刻意义是:学而行之才是真正的学习。

By the analyzing of all the 95 sentences where "说"appears in Zuo Zhuan,the core meaning of "说"is derived as "obedience",and this new meaning is completely suitable for all the 18 sentences with "说"in The Analects of Confucius. In this paper,the slice differences of "说"are also compared carefully in both Zuo Zhuan and The Analects of Confucius. Finally this paper tries to explain the meaning of "说"in the first sentence of The Analects of Confucius in a new way. According to this paper,the profound meaning of the first sentence in The Analects of Confucius is that the real learning should be to study and practice what you have learned.
