Different Opinions on School Mission and Personnel Reshuffle of Hunan Shiwu Academy

时务学堂创办之始即存在两种办学宗旨的分歧,一种是以实业人才为培养目标,一种是以政治人才为培养目标。后者才是时务学堂实际执行的办学宗旨。该分歧最终导致了陈宝箴对时务学堂进行人事改组。时务学堂的人事改组也不是孤立的现象,其时湖南的新政已趋于凋敝。

At the beginning of the establishment of Shiwu Academy,there were two different opinions on the school mission. One target was to cultivate industrial talents. The other was to cultivate political talents,which was the school mission being actually excecuted by Shiwu Academy.It was the different opinions that led CHEN Baozhen to conduct personnel reshuffle of Shiwu Academy. This paper points out that the personnel reshuffle of Shiwu Academy is not an isolated phenomenon. The New Deal in Hunan between July and August of 1898 was in a state of wither.
