女性在争取自身话语权及其社会权利的过程中历经波折与磨难。在封建社会,女性处于一种完全的失语状态,即使到了标榜民主和平等的美国社会,她们依然受到歧视,话语权受到极大地压制,但她们从没有停止过为争取自身权利的斗争。影片《喜福会》中四位母亲及其女儿们在争取话语权道路上的跌宕起伏,真实再现了女性自我意识的觉醒和女性话语权在不同时代不同国度中的压制、挣扎与回归。

Women have come through ups and downs in the process of struggling for their discourse power and social rights. In feudal society,the female lived in a society without any discourse power. Even if they finally went to the USA where democracy and equality were preached,they were still discriminated,and their discourse power was repressed greatly. However,they have never stopped to fight for their own rights. The four pairs of mothers and their daughters have gone through tempestuous experience in the course of striving for their discourse power in The Joy Luck Club,which reproduced the awakening of the female self-consciousness and the repress,the struggle and return of female discourse power in different times and different nations.
