The Limitations of Practice:The Technical Research Skills Required for a Conceptual History of the Chinese Communist Party

以中共历史概念为主体对象的中共概念史研究,是中共历史学的一个研究分支或类型。由于中共历史学作为整体性的学科,面对的是不同的实践史事研究对象,这就导致了在方法 (技艺)上,既存在整体性的研究方法,也存在具体性的研究方法。中共概念史研究具有自身的具体研究方法,亦即研究技艺——技术性方法。讨论中共概念史的研究技艺,不仅仅是一种方法论的问题,更涉及对这种方法论认知的理论问题。因此,对中共概念史的研究技艺进行分析,不能不建立在相关的理论认知基础上。要避免研究技艺的误用,不能不首先对研究对象的性质作出判断。在这个意义上讲,理论认知决定研究技艺的运用。

Research on the Chinese Communist Party＇ s conceptual history, whose central subject is the historical concept of the CPC, is a branch or type of research on CPC history. Because CPC history is a comprehensive discipline involving research subjects derived from various practical historical events, it involves both comprehensive research methods as well as specific research methods. Research on the conceptual history of the CPC has its own specific research methods, namely specific research skills and technical methods. Discussions on the research skills required for a conceptual history of the CPC focus not only methodological issues but also on theoretical questions related to an understanding of the methodological issues. Therefore, an analysis of the techniques in- volved in research on CPC conceptual history requires a basic theoretical understanding. In order to avoid misusing the technical research skills, one must first evaluate the nature of the research subjects. In this sense, a theoretical understanding determines the correct utilization of the research techniques.
