摘要
当代美国作家菲利普·罗斯的小说《普通人》延续了作家一向关注的社会问题,但写作风格较之以前作品有很大的不同。罗斯在这部小说中以现实主义的笔调再现了"9·11"恐怖袭击后当代美国社会所暴露的问题。该作品展现了罗斯对"9·11"事件后美国普通人的信仰危机以及老年人面临衰老、病痛和死亡等问题所做的人文主义思考。
Everyman concerns the theme of social issues that figures largely in contemporary American writ- er Philip Roth＇ s previous writing. Yet it differs from the way in which he handles his thematic concerns. In Eve- ryman, Roth examines as a realist various American social issues after ＂9/11＂ terrorist attack, indicating his humanist concerns about a crisis of faith, aging, illness, and death prevalent in post ＂9/11＂ terrorism.
