《帝国瀑布》(Empire Falls,又译为《帝国的衰落》),是美国著名作家理查德·拉索(Richard Russo)(1949-)的代表性作品之一。该小说出版于2001年,并于2002年荣获美国普利策文学奖。小说以几个家庭的生活经历为主线,从多层叙事角度捕捉了几代人之间的交融和碰撞,情节引人入胜,人物刻画独到、精彩。而其中所展现出的个体之间的较量恰如其分地揭示了人物之间的话语权。从福柯的权力理论角度,小说中主要人物间曲折、复杂的话语较量,复杂的人物关系中的权力控制与对抗过程,形成了主要人物间的权力话语控制机制。

Empire Falls is prestigious American novelist Richard Russo＇s masterpiece,which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2002.The novel tells a family-mainline story and describes the collision and fusion between generations from multi-narration. Attractive plots and enchanting character personalities made it more fascinating. Then,discourse and power between the main characters are represented and disclosed to the fullest as the story goes. From Foucault＇s perspective,power system is exactly performed when the characters suppress and subvert each other under complicated circumstances.
