Zhengwei sound( 郑卫之音) as depicted in The Book of Rites not only refers to the music in Zheng district or Wei district, but also relates to a compound word that is a general designation representing corrosive Chinese folk music. It is an antithesis of Classical Court Music. Sangzhong( 桑中) pertains to a historical story depicting the corrupt practice of the Wei rulers, leading to its being attacked by the Di state. That story is satired in Shijing( 诗经). And Pushang( 濮上) refers to the story that a ruler named Wei Ling listened to music in Pushui area.Although both Sangzhong( 桑中) and Pushang( 濮上) are depict the downfall of states, they do not refer to the same history and the same place. The purpose of this article is a correction for current annotations.
