This paper analyzes the main factors of the effective governance of American university libraries,so as to provide reference for their counterparts in China.The results indicate： governance structure and institutional design is a factor that should be taken seriously;governance structure and institutional design are of significance for the future research;the evaluation of governance model is an important part of the study of effective governance;and rational analysis and step-by-step approach are the appropriate methods for reference.
