As one of the most recent developments of socio-translation studies, the theory of translatorial hexis postulates that a cultural honor-seeking bodily stance or hexis observable in such textual details as diction and phraseology might be embodied in the trans- lated text, thus shedding fresh light on certain cultural translation strategies adopted by the translator. Drawing on this brand-new theory, this article attempts to offer a fresh interpretation of some translation strategies which Lin Yutang adopted in his widely- critiqued English translation Six Chapters of a Floating Life. The case study indicates that both Lin's voluntary retention and inter- ventive rewriting (deletion and attenuation) of Chinese culture in the source text embody a translatorial stance that strives to seek Chinese cultural honor. It is also observed that the theory of translatorial hexis applies particularly well to foreign-language trans- lations of Chinese culture produced by translators of Chinese culture identity, but its scope of application has limitations.
