The governance of megacity is a worldwide problem. David Harvey＇ s Paris, Capital of Modernity has important reference significance for understanding the essence of megacity theoretically and carrying out its governance in practice. In his book, Harvey shows the reconstruction of Paris by capital and power in late nineteenth century and emphasizes the spatial dimensionality of modernity and urbanism. As a typical megacity, modern Paris epitomizes urbanism and high modernity. Harvey reproduces the establishment of modern Paris, and reveals how capital and modernity are combined at a particular time and place and how social relations and political imagination are activated by this combination. Harvey emphasizes the significance and influence of megacity as a spatial form, which reminds us that we should not only see the present situation of megacity and the specific problems existing inside it, but also pay attention to the formation of this space form and the driving mechanism. In addition, the understanding and governance of megacity also requires a theoretical perspective of modernity and reflective modernity.
