A new monograph on literary theory, From Formalism to Historicism ： An Investigation of the ＂Outward Turn＂ of Modern Literary Theories, written by Professor Yao Wenfang, was recently published by Peking University Press. The book is also a survey of the academic ideological history on China＇s recent ＂Western Learning＂ studies. As a comprehensive monograph of academic cases, it discusses nine problems, and achieves the unification of in-depth depiction of the academic history and detailed description of important issues. Turning theory into thought, the book fully reflects the author＇s academic individuality and realizes his academic pursuits-vindicating theories and evocating thoughts, which impresses the reader deeply. As a theoretical work on the conversion mechanism of modern lit- erature theory, it emphasizes the standpoint of being based in Chinese experiences and the purpose of solving Chinese problems, which is of revelatory significance for the description of Chinese experiences and the construction of Chinese theory.
