With the infamous Janet Smith murder case as the historical background,Chinese Canadian writer SKY Lee's Disappearing Moon Café( 1990) is a Chinese family romance that narrates four generations' stories of the Wong family within and beyond national boundaries. Lee describes the history of marginalization and racialization inflicted on Chinese and presents the unequal relationship between Chinese and native Indians, offering a critique of the internal orientalism within the minorities in Canada by means of spacial contrast. She also expresses the strengthened female subjectivity and agency by showing the spacial changes that four generations of Wong women undergo to critique racial and sexual politics in Canada through the lens of gender.
