A Constructive Analysis of Fish Cultural Connotations in Chinese and English

人们常常借助动物来寄托和表达感情,所以人类语言中有许多与动物相关的词汇。鱼被人类开发利用最早,人类由最初的捕鱼、食鱼,发展到赏鱼、写鱼,到最后借鱼抒情,以鱼铭志,形成了内容丰富的鱼文化。语言是文化的载体,鱼文化在英汉语言中必然有充分的反映。但由于受历史、习俗、价值观念、宗教信仰等诸方面文化因素的影响,英汉两种语言中的鱼文化,其内容虽有共同之处,但更多的是各具特色。

Animals are usually used to convey and express emotions, and therefore there are plenty of words and expressions having something to do with animals in languages. Fishes are developed and used the earliest by man, who began to catch and eat fish in the early period. Man enjoyed fish at first, and then wrote about fish, and finally came to use fish to express his emotions and show his goals, which led to the formation of the fish culture.Language is the carrier of culture, so the fish culture will be fully reflected in Chinese and English. However, as to the connotation of the fish culture, which is influenced by history, custom, values,religious beliefs and so on, although there is something in common, there is more in differences.
