This paper gives a brief overview of the understanding of intangible cultural heritage. The paper focuses on the ＂Chinese experience＂ of intangible cultural heritage protection, as well as the unique advantages and analyzes the characteristics of and the inseparable relationship between the protection of intangible cultural heritage and documentary images. To use the method of documentary images to protect the intangible cultural heritage, the foundation is to respect and copy each nation to the most degree. That is a starting point of the work, which needs to collect, sort and induct the ＂intangible heritage＂ adhereing to the principle of being true and complete, so as to be protected. This paper illustrates the value of documentary images to intangible cultural heritage by using Anhui＇s most representative intangible cultural heritages as examples.
