With the rapid development and high density of contemporary city, residents have been experiencing the lack of everyday living space, calling for the street vitality usually found in traditional cities.However, while busy running on vehicle lanes every day, we couldn＇t help but ponder, where we can find the street we aspire, what indeed the ideal street is？Taking the four aspects of urban streets-1） pedestrian friendly spaces, 2） enclosures defined by building interfaces, 3） functional support, 4） spaces for everyday life—as the starting point, the paper attempts to provide specific definitions of contemporary urban street, suggesting that the street, as a linear public space, should be pedestrian friendly and remains a coupling relationship with its building interface.Furthermore, the research proposes a set of solutions to make the pedestrian system along the arterial traffic roads a place for everyday life with the characters of streets.
