The Teaching Design of College English from the Perspective of the ESP Theory

专门用途英语从20世纪80年代开始就在全球范围内广泛流行开来,近几年,在中国已成为重要的研究课题。大学英语课程由于社会发展和人才市场大量需求亟需进行改革,而在大学英语课程应用中专门用途英语理论是具有可行性的。首先,对专门用途英语的概念和基本特征进行概述;其次,探讨了开设专门用途英语视角下大学英语课程的必要性;最后,提出了专门用途英语理论视角下大学英语课程的教学设计。

English for specific purpose （ESP hereafter） has got popular in the world since the 1980s and has become an important research subject in China in recent years, There is an urgent need to carry on college English reform because of the heavy demands by the social development and talent market. It is feasible to apply the theory of ESP in college English teaching. This paper firstly overviews the concept and basic features of English for special purposes, probes into the necessity of setting up the college English course based on the perspective of ESP, finally puts forward the teaching design of college English from the perspective of the ESP theory.
