An Interpretation of Kamala Markandaya's Nectar in a Sieve from the Perspective of Post-colonial Feminism

卡玛拉·玛坎达雅是当代杰出的印度裔英国移民女作家。她一直关注印度女性的生存状况,同时深刻了解印度传统文化和西方现代文明。运用后殖民女性主义理论解读其小说《筛子中的甘露》,分析玛坎达雅塑造的坚强独立的新女性形象,揭示印度女性如何在双重压迫下做到突破印度传统,抵制西方殖民统治。

Kamala Markandaya is an outstanding contemporary Indian-British immigrant female writer. She pays close attethe living conditions of traditional women in India. Meanwhile,she also has deep understanding of Indian traditionwestern modern culture. Her first novel Nectar in a Sieve vividly displays the struggling and fighting experience of Indian womenunder two oppressions,which are patriarchal culture and western colonial culture. The novel is interpreted by post-colonial femi-nism and the new image of strong and independent women are analyzed. How Indian women western colonial domination uder the two oppressioos are disclosed.
