On the New Features of Zhiguai Fiction in Song Dynasty

志怪小说是我国古典小说史中重要的一类,兴起于先秦,盛于魏晋南北朝,但此后的创作实绩平平。发展至宋代,在创作数量、创作动机及内容主旨、艺术特色等方面都有了新变。其对后世小说也具有一定影响,在文学史上应给予一定的地位。

Zhiguai fiction, as one of the significant components in the history in Chinese classical novels, originated in the pre-Qin period and flourished in the Wei, Jin and Northern and Southern Dynasties, after which the achievements have been mediocre. However, not until the Song Dynasty, there were new changes in the quantity of creation, the motivation and content and the artistic features and so on, offering certain impacts on the following novels, thus deserving its own position in the history of Chinese literature.
