Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder caused by abnormal discharge of neurons in the brain, the risk of sudden death in epilepsy is 15~20 times higher than in normal people. Its inherent complexity, heterogeneity and genetic susceptibility to different populations make the treatment of epilepsy more difficult. Therefore, it is always one of the hot topics in the field of medicine to explore the causes of epileptic seizures and to seek an ideal treatment for epilepsy. At present, the treatment of epilepsy mainly includes medicine treatment, operation treatment, gene therapy, diet treatment, electric stimulation treatment and so on. This article reviews the latest progress in the etiology and treatment of epilepsy.
