Objective To investigate the effect of 8-week basic military training(BMT) on the new conscripts' Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index(QUICKI).Methods A total of 39 newmale conscripts of Xinjiang Frontier Armed Police(age:18.83±1.53 y) in2016 were allocated for three groups by body mass index(BMI): the underweight group(BMI18.5 kg/m^2, n=8, the normal weight group(18.5 kg/m^2≤BMI24.9 kg/m^2, n=16, the overweight group(BMI≥24.9 kg/m^2, n=15).Height, weight, waist circumference, fasting serum glucose, insulin and lipid were measured and recorded at the beginning and the end of 8-week BMT respectively. Results After 8-week BMT, QUICKI index of the new conscripts has no significant change(P0.05). Both at the beginning and the end of 8-week BMT,QUICKI index in overweight group were significant lower when compared to the normal weight subjects and the underweight subjects(P0.05). Conclusion 8-week BMT can't change the new conscripts' QUICKI index significantly and there is a negative relationship between QUICKI index and BMI.
