摘要
1902年,安立德以美国翻译生的身份进入中国,之后在上海、福州、台湾、厦门等地历任使馆相关工作,以副领事、商务参赞的身份游走中国政、商、学界近40年,与北京、上海的上海美国人社群有持续且紧密的联系。本文基于斯坦福大学胡佛研究所的安立德个人档案,勾勒其一生,以此拓展中美关系史研究的视野。
Julean Arnold came into China as an American translator in 1902.After that,he was engaged in the embassy relevant work in Shanghai,Fuzhou,Taiwan,Xiamen and other places successively.He lived and worked as a vice consul,commercial counselor for nearly 40 years,in China’s politics,commercial circles and academia.So,he had a continuous and closely relationship with the American community of Beijing and Shanghai.This paper outlines Arnold’s life in order to expand the understanding of the mesoscopic view in Sino American relations,based on his personal archives of the Hoover Institute at Stanford University.
