乡村与城市截然不同。乡村是农业文明的产物,而现代城市是由工业文明造就的。然而,农业文明难以避免来自工业文明的冲击。30多年来,延绵了几百上千年的中国乡村发生了巨变。快速的城市化吞噬或蚕食着城市周边的乡村;在乡村地区蔓延的工业破坏了乡村的自然生态环境;乡村青壮年向城市迁移,留守的多是老人、妇女和儿童,乡村家庭的完整性遭到破坏,传统价值观面临解体;人口的流失使得许多村庄呈现破瓦颓垣、田野荒芜的破败景象,乡村面临着严重的经济、生态、文化和社会危机。

The countryside is very different from the city. The countryside is a product of agricultural civilization, and themodern city is created by industrial civilization.However, it is hard to avoid the impact of industrial civilization on agricultural civilization. Over the past 30 years or so, tremendous changes took place in the Chinese countryside that lasted for hundredsand thousands of years. Rapid urbanization swallowed up or eroded the villages around cities; the industries that spread in rural areas undermined the natural environment of villages; rural young people migrate to cities, the left behind are mostly by the elderly, women and children, the integrity of rural amilies have been destroyed, and the traditional values are facing dissolution; the loss of population has left many villages tumbled, deserted and ruined, and the rural areas face serious economic, ecological, cultural and social crises.
