Culture Casting Spirit:Analysis of Country Gardens of Suzhou at Late Yuan to Early Ming Dynasty

元明之际苏州的乡村园林数量、声名都远胜于城内。园景以清旷取胜,隐逸色彩浓厚,园林雅集盛行。园主多为文人,他们以自己的言行诠释诗意栖居;参与乡村教育活动,传播文化;雅集活动在乡间营造出浓厚的文化氛围。当代乡村建设也应立足本土,创设彰显地域特色的乡境;加强地域文化教育,提升乡人的素养情怀。只有注重文化引领,为自然生态注入人文底蕴,才能使美丽乡村真正成为人们的诗和远方。

From late Yuan to early Ming, the country gardens of Suzhou not only outnumbered those in the city, but also won higher reputation than the latter as well. The gardens feature spacious and quiet landscapes, strong reclusive spirit, and the prevalence of gatherings among scholars and artists. The owners of the country gardens were primarily men of letters who endeavored to interpret their dwellings with their words and deeds. They spread culture by actively participating in rural educational programs and cultivatedintense artistic atmosphere with their gatherings in the gardens. The contemporary rural construction activities need to serve the local by promoting their unique features, and elevate the qualities and tastes of the local people by stressing the part of education that embodies the local characters. Only by setting up an aim to preserve and explore more cultural connotations in the countryside, we will be able to convert the beautiful countryside into people＇s real spiritual home.
