移民与求富:1952年槟城龙岩会馆的历史记忆

Emigration and Fortune Seeking——a Historical Memory of Longyan Guild Hall in Penang in 1952

1952年出版的《槟城龙岩会馆廿二周年暨新厦落成纪念刊》,保存了19世纪中期以来福建省龙岩县民众向马来西亚迁徙和求富的历史记忆。当时龙岩县社会经济萧条、土地抛荒和破产失业等问题日益严重,构成了促使民众移民南洋求富的内在驱动力。近代史上,马来亚半岛不仅成为连接西方和东方世界市场的一大枢纽,而且演变成为"自由贸易"的文明社会,从而为外来移民提供了开拓新财源的机遇。

The Memorial Pamphlet of the 22 nd Anniversary of Longyan Guild Hall in Penang and Completion of New Building published in 1952 recorded the history of people from Longyan County,Fujian Province emigrating to Malaysia and seeking fortune since the middle 19 th century. At that time,such social problems as economic depression,farmland abandonment,bankruptcy and unemployment became increasingly severe and forced people to immigrate to Southeast Asia. In the modern history,the Malaya Peninsula is not only a hub of linking the Western world and the Oriental market,but also a place of providing the emigrants with opportunities in seeking new fortunes. This route taken by these Longyan emigrants became the trade for fortune,which was accorded with the global trend at that time. Their exploring behavior and pioneering spirit are worth being recorded in the history.
