With the emphasis on being instrumental of English teaching, compared with the English major in comprehensive universities, universities of international studies and normal universities, the English major in local universities of science and technology faces a lot of difficulties in its development. The challenge that the development of English major in local universities of science and technology faces is how to inherit the disciplinary nature of English and integrate with the characteristics of its university so as to promote the rational development of English major and the all-round enhancement of its students. Under the guidance of National Standards, making clear the disciplinary orientation and cultivation objects, and optimizing curriculum setting and talents cultivation model become the imperative choice for the development of English major in local universities of science and technology.
