An Examination of Wang Wei's Years of Birth and Death

关于王维生平中的生、卒、享三年,历来众说不一。文章以新的材料与新的视角为切入点,对王维的生年、卒年、享年进行了重新考察,认为王维生于武则天长寿二年,卒于唐肃宗上元元年,享年六十八岁。唐人七十致仕,为当时法律所规定,王维文中的"七十致仕",即是据此而为。

There have been conflicting ideas concerning Wang Wei’s birth,death and age. This paper reexamined Wang Wei’s birth,death and age with the support of new evidences and new perspectives. It is found that Wang Wei was born in the second year of Wu Zetian’s rule and died in the first year of Tang Suzong at the age of 68.
