英译《寻乌调查》中的客家文化失真及误译

A Study on Cultural Losses and Mistranslations in Report From Xunwu

对比毛泽东的《寻乌调查》和美国学者罗杰·汤普森的英译本《Report from Xunwu》,分析译者对原著中客家方言、客家饮食文化、客家农耕文化、客家民俗文化等客家文化元素的英文表达,指出译文中因翻译的内在"不可译性"以及译者对原语语言及文化的认知缺失而出现的一些"文化失真"和误译现象,并提出了相应的修改建议。

Report FromXunwu translated by Roger R. Thompson is an English version of Mao Zedong＇s XunwuDiaocha, which was an investigation report about the society, politics, economy and culture of a small county in 1930 in the south of China where the Hakka people inhabited. The present study explores Roger Thompson＇s ways of expressing the Hakka culture in Report From Xunwufrom the as- pects of the dialect, the food culture, the agriculture and the folk culture of the Hakka people. The findings reveal that there exit some cultural losses and mistranslations due to untranslability inherent in translation and the translator＇s lack of cognition of the source lan- guage and culture. With the findings, we suggest the relevant corrections for the mistranslations.
