This article elucidates the importance of leading disciplines in the construction and development of discipline group in hospitals from the perspectives of concept of leading discipline, the signifcance of leading discipline determination, and the key elements and basic strategies for selecting and constructing the leading disciplines. Discipline group construction is directly related to the sustainable development of hospitals and is the key factor to elevate the core competitiveness of a hospital. Discipline group construction involves multidisciplinary cooperation, which should be dominated by a leading discipline to steer their development, forming a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary network link and producing inestimable joint force. Without the keen and profound guidance of the leading discipline, the discipline group will lose direction and focus. Therefore, a leading discipline plays a decisive role in discipline group construction in hospitals.
