Textual Research on the River Gates and Dams of the Qingjiangpu Canal and Its Elevation

清江浦运河水闸的兴废、迁徙、升降,与河床淤垫、疏导及其河底高程的变化、运河水源的变化密切相关。闸坝的变迁也因此非常繁复,不仅今人难以厘清头绪,即使清代学人也搞不清楚,甚至明代典籍也令人歧义频生。因此,需要对清江浦五闸,束水坝、减水坝及其高程进行相关考证。

The rise and fall,the relocations and the changed levels of the river gates and dams of the Qingjiangpu reach of the Grand Canal show close links to the riverbed silt pad its dredging and the resulting changes of the river bottom levels,as well as to the changes in the sources of the canal water. The history of the gates and dams is so complicated that even scholars of the Qing Dynasty were not very clear about it,let alone people of the present day. Worse still,records left from the Ming Dynasty are often ambiguous. Therefore,a relevant textual research on the five river gates of the Qingjiangpu Canal,its beam dams and its dams for releasing floodwater,together with the changes in their elevation,should be carried out.
