孙锵鸣、李鸿章师生交谊考

An Investigation of the Teacher-student Friendship between SUN Qiangming and LI Hongzhang

晚清重臣李鸿章誉满天下,谤满天下,是我国近代史上极具争议又极有影响力的人物。道光二十七年(1847年),李鸿章参加会试,得同考官孙锵鸣的举荐后考中进士,从此两人有了师生交谊。两人见面的机会虽然不多,但李鸿章非常看重这段情谊,一直保持与孙锵鸣的联系,甚至极为关注孙锵鸣后辈的成长。两人师生交谊延续近一个世纪,有重要的文化意义。

LI Hongzhang, the high-ranking official in the late Qing Dynasty, who is both highly praised and harshly criticized, is a highly controversial yet very influential figure in early modern China. In the 27-（th） year of the Daoguang Emperor＇s reign（1847）, LI Hongzhang attended the metropolitan examination, and became a Jinshi（a successful candidate for the highest imperial examinations） with the recommendation from the examiner SUN Qiangming. Thereafter, their teacher-student friendship began. Though the two met each other only for a few times, LI Hongzhang highly valued this friendship, maintained his contact with SUN Qiangming, and even paid close attention to the growing-up of SUN Qiangming＇s offspring. The nearly half-a-century friendship has a significant cultural meaning.
