"The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia?" was written by Edward Albee and won Tony Awards in 2002. It is a family tragedy caused by bestiality. However, below the surface of this absurd story, there are several archetypes such as goat, bestiality, Ju- das, Medea, etc. These archetypes reflect human desires, worries and hope. And this play shows the tragedy of contemporary human. People lose their vitality and passion. They separate themselves with nature. What' s worse, people cannot understand each other and tolerate heresy. Thus, it expresses the desire of getting back to nature and release the repressed self, the wish of harmonize reason with passion and the pursuit of spiritual home.
